A community based project focused on addressing Gender Based Violence
Project Story
Despite almost four decades of the province's action plans that pivot on police and criminal justice intervention, women and communities by extension are no safer. Criminal interventions, activated by police, are not able to respond to such complex social issues and have caused harm and served to widen the mistrust and anger of Indigenous, Black and racialized peoples. Rarely are decisions put in the hands of those most impacted. Radical transformation and the safety of women is only possible through a multi-pronged, coordinated effort grounded in intersectional feminist principles that center justice, healing, liberation, and choice. It is time to engage in courageous, fearless, critical conversation to describe feminism so that it resonates and is inclusive of diverse voices and acknowledges the differential experiences and challenges resulting from intersecting identities. It is necessary to amplify the voices of those who have traditionally faced exclusion, exploitation, displacement and othering if we are to make real and meaningful change.
Who is the Feminist Collective?
An alliance of women and non-binary people who are representative of their communities and who are dedicated to co-creating a space for healing, education, and meaningful change through the lends of equality. In our work, feminist identities and politics are celebrated and our multiple and varied identities recognized, valued and listened to. The struggle for women's rights is deeply political because it challenges the legitimacy of systems, structures, and ideology, that keep women subjugated.

The intention of the Feminist Collective is to engage in critical, honest, and audacious analysis and craft recommendations to create systems, environments and interventions that reflect and respect diverse identities, and is better able to comprehensively interrupt gender-based violence in all its forms. The ultimate goal is to offer women realistic options, strategies and interventions that properly support them in regaining agency in their lives to make informed and healthy choices.
